SUMMARY:Improving quality of life for people with an ileostomy
DESCRIPTION:Join the ACPGBI for a sandpit discussion event which will explore gaps in the current research agenda into improving quality of life for people living with an ileostomy. With a view to developing research collaboratives or building on existing research teams who will help construct an agenda to focus a call for research grant applications. It is anticipated that circa £200k of funding will be available for projects generated from this sandpit event for which applications will be invited and peer reviewed by the ACPGBI. DESCRIPTION:The UK does not routinely use preoperative oral antibiotics to prepare the bowel prior to elective colorectal surgery despite large US trials suggesting we should.\nThere is great interest in the UK in introducing this practice but there is no uniform view on how to go about this. This meeting will bring together leaders in colorectal surgery\, microbiology and enhanced recovery after surgery along with two world experts on the microbiome with the aim of introducing preoperative oral antibiotics into routine UK colorectal practice.\nThe novel interactive format with one world expert quizzing another for the benefit of the audience in an attempt to drive home the message and explore the issues in depth with one entire afternoon dedicated to one important topic.
