Sarah Duff is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Specialty Lead for General Surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester Foundation Trust. Sarah’s commitment to training and dedication to delivering high quality patient care are just some of the many reasons she is held in the highest regard amongst trainees and colleagues alike. Sarah’s passion and enthusiasm for research filters down to her trainees and she has successfully created an environment where all trainees are actively involved in research. Sarah will continue to shape many of our futures, and it is our privilege to work alongside her.


Sarah is the definition of a surgical leader. She drives change from the front and currently is the head of department. Sarah has driven many changes locally and within the region to improve patient care and outcomes. She is active in research locally and nationally and takes every opportunity to promote evidence-based practice and collaborative research. Sarah is also heavily involved in education, training and mentorship to allied health professionals, medical students, Foundation Doctors, Core Trainees and Speciality Trainees. Her passion and drive to improve surgery is a true inspiration to everyone.


Excellence all round, from clinical skills and departmental leadership, to training and endless research involvement, both locally and nationally. Sarah is a force to be reckoned with, taking even the most challenging of situations in her stride and putting one hundred and ten percent into everything she takes on. Sarah is not only an excellent colorectal surgeon, but manages to maintain a healthy work-life balance throughout it all. Sarah is beyond influential and inspirational – in fact, at Wythenshawe Hospital, we commonly find ourselves asking ‘What would Sarah Duff do?”.


Excellent surgeon. Great academic. Fantastic teacher and guide. Fabulous as leader and a role model. Truly inspiring. Yet always humble and with a warm smile.
